4 Things I learned About Scandinavian Culture

Many of you may not know about the interesting cultures that are practiced in Scandinavia. Therefore (Transition Signal), I'm delighted to share with you 4 things that I have recently learnt on Scandinavian culture. 1. Happiness is the Best Makeup

For many years, the World Happiness Reports have been dominated by Scandinavia (Present Perfect Tense). Being one of the nations in the world with most cyclists, they have developed a cycling culture which has been in Denmark for more than a century (Present Perfect Tense). When the oil crisis struck the world in 1970, the Danish haven't stopped cycling since then (Present Perfect Tense) and the kids are taught to ride the bike before the tender age of 6. 

The bicycle became a symbol of democracy, equality and freedom in Denmark. It gives equal freedom to move for everybody regardless of their social status (Subject Verb Agreement). The culture has been engraved in their life from young to old age (Present Perfect Tense), hence (Transition Signal) bicycles also strengthen the local community (Subject Verb Agreement). In order to meet the demand of the huge number of cyclists, Denmark has created a superhighway cycle route (Present Perfect Tense) that enhances the safety and condition for cyclists. Furthermore (Transition Signal), they have been planning to expand the highways in the urban area. (Present Perfect Tense)




3. SPLURGING ON BUNADS (NORWAY)

In Norway, many of them spend as much as 50,000 NOK (RM23K) on bunad which is their traditional national costume with embroideries and jewelry (Subject Verb Agreement). It's part of the Norwegian culture for both man and woman to wear bunad (Subject Verb Agreement) for folk dancing at official celebrations, weddings and especially on Constitution Day which falls on May 17.




4. Sweden is The People's Home (SWEDEN)

One of the vital characteristics of Swedish culture is their egalitarianism which is a belief in human equality especially with respect to social, political, and economic affairs (Subject Verb Agreement). Folkhemmet or the people's home is a metaphor for the Sweden nation as a family household. It symbolizes equality along with mutual care which is the base for a society mediated and supported by social welfare (Subject Verb Agreement). This process has started since the end of WWII.


These days, resource distribution in Sweden is one of the most equal globally and their welfare is sustained by a high tax rate (Subject Verb Agreement). The Swedes comply voluntarily because of the returns they get in strong public institutions and they get a sense of contribution. To summarise(Transition Signal), Sweden's welfare system has paved the way for egalitarianism. (Present Perfect Tense)
