Endless Journey of Food Hunting in Scandinavia

Scandinavian Food - ScandiKitchen

During our trip in Scandinavia, trying out the food has been one of the most unique and fun experiences for us!(Present Perfect Tense) It should be noted that the Scandinavians enjoy cuisines that use ingredients that are natural, fresh and can survive in cold climates (Subject Verb Agreement). For example, (Transition Signal) potatoes, root vegetables, dairy products, berries and seafood.

Picture-perfect and scrumptious!
Our first ever breakfast in Scandinavia was a traditional open sandwich that includes buttered rye bread topped with a variety of ingredients (Subject verb agreement) such as smoked salmons, cheeses, scallion and condimentsThey are called smørrebrød, smørbrød and smörgås in Danish, Norway and Swedish respectively. It originated from the 19th century when thick slices of stale bread were served as plates (Subject verb agreement) to absorb the juice from the topping. Over time, the bread was included in the meal as it had absorbed the tasty flavors. (Subject verb agreement)

Farikal
We also loved Fårikål which means mutton in cabbage. This dish is made from mutton, along with cabbage, salt, and whole black peppercorns which are boiled for hours until the mutton falls off the bone (Subject verb agreement). Its roots come from Denmark, and it became a national diet in Norway in the 20th century. After trying this dish (Transition Signal), it was obvious why it has become one of the national Norwegian dishes (Present Perfect Tense). The stew was very flavorful and hearty.

Dream cake - Recipes

In Denmark, we couldn't stop eating Drømmekage which means dream cake. The cake itself is just a good, simple sponge cake, but (Transition Signal) the caramelized coconut topping takes it to another level (Subject verb agreement). Its topping is like the filling for our local dessert, which is 'Kuih Ketayap’ but without the pandan flavor. Before this (Transition Signal), we had never tasted the topping on a cake(Past Perfect Tense), so we found the combination interestingThe cake became famous after a woman had won a nationwide baking contest in 1960 in Denmark with it. (Past Perfect Tense) .

In Sweden, we wanted to try raggmunk which is a potato pancake. However (Transition Signal), it's almost always served with fried salted pork and lingonberry jam. Since none of us eats pork, we went to Kilo & Gram which is a vegan cafe. Neither pork nor eggs were used in their raggmunk  (Subject verb agreement). The pancakes were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, while (Transition Signal) the jam was sweet and tangy.

Älggryta med enbär – recept
For the dinner, our Swedish friend Fatema had invited us to her house before we flew back to Malaysia (Past Perfect Tense). She served us Älg gryta, which translates to moose stew. For Älg gryta, the meat is typically marinated with juniper berries and then simmered with meat stock, thyme, mushrooms and root vegetables until the meat becomes tender (Subject verb agreement). Unlike (Transition Signal) the traditional recipe, her version didn't use wine but despite that, (Transition Signal) it tasted amazing.

After the entrée (Transition Signal), she treated us with the most popular Sweden’s buns, Kanelbullar. The cinnamon bun is made with a soft and buttery cardamom dough, cinnamon-sugar filling and tied into knots (Subject verb agreement). Now that (Transition Signal) we are in Malaysia, we always crave for this bun (Subject verb agreement) but until now, we haven’t found any cinnamon bun that can beat kanelbullar! (Present Perfect Tense)

In summary(Transition Signal), Scandinavia has easily become one of our favorite destinations in Europe! (Present Perfect Tense) We have fallen in love with the country in various aspects (Present Perfect Tense). The mouth-watering food along with the generous people is the attraction that we shouldn't miss! (Subject verb agreement)
